Stomatopods of the family Squillidae, collected between 1973 and 2014 in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico and deposited in 3 carcinological collections of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) were reviewed. Among 1,605 specimens identified as Squilla empusa and collected in the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Tabasco, we detected 8 specimens of Gibbesia neglecta. The specimens of G. neglecta were captured in a commercial shrimp trawl in 3 collection sites on the continental shelf of Tamaulipas and Tabasco, and in the Tamiahua lagoon, Veracruz, Mexico and they represent the first records of this species in Mexican waters. The bathymetric interval of the G. neglecta samples coincided with previous records thus confirming that its maximum depth is, up to now, 64 m. The current distribution of G. neglecta is analyzed and compared with that known for S. empusa.
