Abstract

Hymenocallis vasconcelosii a new species from the Oaxaca and Puebla states, Mexico, is described and illustrated. This species can be recognized by the following set of characters: oblong-elliptic leaves; flowers with shorter and narrower tepals, small and rotate staminal cup and triquetrous seeds with the abaxial side rounded. It is morphologically similar to H. harrisiana and H. glauca, from which it can be distinguished by its smaller vegetative and reproductive organs and few flowers. A table comparing the morphological features of the 3 species is included.
