We describe the richness and beta diversity of tiger beetles (Carabidae: Cicindelinae) in Mexico, based on biogeographic regions and provinces. Using information from databases, entomological collections, and published literature, we obtained a total of 6,501 records, which are grouped into 4 tribes, 16 genera and 122 species of cicindelids
distributed in Mexico. At the national level, the Chao1 estimator predicted 128 species, thus the inventory would be 95% complete. The biogeographic provinces with the highest species richness were the Chihuahuan Desert, Pacific
Lowlands and Veracruzan, and the lowest richness occurred in the Californian, Tamaulipas and Yucatan Peninsula provinces. We estimated beta diversity and its replacement and nestedness components between regions and between
pairs of biogeographic provinces. The greatest beta diversity occurred among the provinces of the Mexican Transition Zone. In most cases, turnover was the main component of beta diversity. This paper describes the distribution of
cicindeline species in the country, but at a local scale new studies are required to understand the ecology, the factors that determine the distribution patterns of these insects and their responses to environmental changes.
