Abstract

The southeastern Pacific chimaeroid Hydrolagus macrophthalmus De Buen, 1959, is reported for the first time in the northeastern Pacific on the basis of 1 male specimen (945 mm TL) caught on 13 April 1995 off Manzanillo, Colima (Mexico: 18º 30’N, 104º 15’W) at the surface above deep water (2 000 m). The first occurrence of this species increases the number of chimaeroid species known in the northeastern Pacific and expands their known range.
